Welcome to the world of Kalpataru Tree. My name is Curtis Humphrey and I’ve been a creative my entire life - with my Kalpataru Tree project going well over two decades. With extensive musicial and philosophical educational background and an immersive, real world experience of being a touring musician, producer, sound healer, I feel that I have much value to give to the global community. In the current landscape of short attention spans, sensational novelty seeking, AI slop proliferating all the platforms, and capitalistically designed algorithmic machines in control of what people see and hear - the cards feel stacked against my life mission. If you are here reading these words I would consider that somewhat of a miracle at this point. I am doing my best to distill this extensive life mission into a coherent signal so that I might reach someone - and right now, you are that person! Please, take a moment to soak in what I have to offer - and if you know anyone that may benefit - please let them know about my work. Reach out for questions, collaborations, bookings, or anything that I might be of assistance with. Thank you.
Live Journey Music
Live Journey music is an an organic layered experience of sound emerging from consciousness and flowing through space and time. Done either in a collective container of people, or in nature, or both, the “sound of the moment” emerges through Kalpataru Tree as a channel and flows downstream the river of consciousness into the ocean of pure being. Taking the concept of “DJing” to the next level, think of it as chill out ambient DJ meets Live Looper as the music is created and experienced in real - time.
Bio
What is Kalpataru Tree?
Kalpataru Tree is the musical project of Cascadian resident Curtis Humphrey. Being moved profoundly into ecstatic states precipitated by experimental psychedelic downtempo of the early 2000’s, he set off on a quest to understand and replicate the phenomenon of the intuitive communication of a language beyond words. First though the study of the relationship between music and altered states of consciousness at Chico State university - and then diving deeper into the psychoacoustics of sound and music at the Globe institute in San Francisco, he used this educational and experiential foundation to set off on the quest of music production. Moving into an off-grid yurt in the forests of southern Oregon as his Sonic laboratory, he began to refine his style and soon released the underground psy-dub classic “Scattered Fragments of the Eternal Dream”. Sometimes ambient, dub, downtempo, world, jazz, and experimentally beyond genre - with a heavy emphasis on organic elements such as guitar, bass guitar and the human voice, he proceeded to release a total of 6 albums to date.
Having had a plethora of experiences traveling and touring the festival environs, he now finds himself interested in curating a more grounded, refined, expression of sonic sentiment in conjunction with accomplished musicians and percussionists, poets and performers, offered as live-looping experiences where the dissolution of art and audience is the primary aim.
Live Events
Live Events
The Kalpataru Tree project has performed live at numerous events throughout the years. Some notable moments are headlining events and performing at festivals. I have shared the stage with many notable acts including Deya Dova, Yaima, Random Rab, etc. Festivals have come and gone, many of which don’t exist anymore, rootwire, Photosynthesis, Priceless, Peace Village, Tribal Gathering, Burningman, Shambhala. I was never one to leverage image to posture credibility - I didn’t quite sit well in the “music as entertainment” world - so documentation of these rich, textured years of nomadic drifting is limited. In the current day, I couldn’t care if the audience was 10 or 10,000 - the point is, im here, ready to share what I consider to be magic and wish to collaborate with anyone aligned with intention and presence through art.
